2 Tanzania Peaberry Microlots

Tanzania Peaberry Microlots

New this month we spotlight two excellent Tanzania Peaberry Microlots, Kibosho and Kitamu. Both coffees are handpicked, washed offerings from high elevation regions rich in volcanic soil and close in proximity to the spectacular Mt. Kilimanjaro. We have selected these two Tanzania Peaberry Microlots in order to provide Tanzania options to all our roasters in the whole of the U.S..

!! Please note the Kibosho is only available to the West Coast and the Kitamu to the East Coast !!

Tanzania Kibosho Peaberry Microlot

Our Tanzania Kibosho is sourced from a cooperative of small farm holders within the Moshi District, located on the southern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Since the late 1800s Kilimanjaro has provided a majority of Tanzania’s high quality coffee. Not only is the soil mineral rich, but wide-spread intercropping of tall banana trees provide natural shade and contribute to this region’s stellar growing conditions. Cups with a medium to heavy acidity, notes of brown sugar, jasmine tea and milk chocolate on the finish.

Our West-Coast-Only stock of the Kibosho is limited. If you are interested in adding a bag to your next order, feel free to call us anytime M-F, 8AM – 4:30PM (PST) to speak to our friendly staff about this or any of our other fine specialty coffees at 800.761.JAVA. You may also email us for more details.

Tanzania Kitamu Peaberry Microlot

Our Tanzania Kitamu has been sourced from several estate producers in the northern Karatu District of the Arusha Region, just 50 miles southwest of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Kitamu, meaning “sweet” in Swahili was chosen for this coffee for its delicious and complex acidity, citrusy notes and balanced, dark chocolate-like body.

The Kitamu Peaberry is produced by Heights Estate and Kongoni Estate. Heights Estate is the highest coffee plantation in the region with a peak elevation of 5,839 ft. Kongoni Estate is located on the south western slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater and covers a large area of over 988 acres of coffee.

Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area

The Karatu District has become famous for its proximity to the nearby Ngorongoro Crater, an enormous volcanic caldera and popular tourist destination. Naturally, the area’s mineral-rich soil is perfect for arabica cultivation, but Ngorongoro is also home to some of Africa’s most beloved animals, such as the elephant, buffalo, hippopotamus and lion. As a result, many of the region’s farms have been badly damaged over time by migrating populations of buffalo and elephant.

Farming Sustainability

Estate owners and farmers have in turn spent a great deal of time in the last 10 years building game channels throughout their farms to allow these animals to pass through safely and without interfering with coffee production. We feel this is a unique aspect of the Kitamu production that highlights its connection to the land and wildlife around it.

Our Kitamu Peaberry is available only to the East Coast. If you are interested in adding a bag to your next order, feel free to call us anytime M-F, 8AM – 4:30PM (PST) to speak to our friendly staff about this or any of our other fine specialty coffees at 800.761.JAVA.
