2023 Costa Rica Microlots

This August we are very excited to announce the imminent arrival of our slate of new 2023 Costa Rica Microlots. We have a honey process arriving from Olman Urena in the West Valley, a different honey process from a group of small farm holders in Tarrazu’s Santa Cruz, and four different microlots from Hacienda Sonora in the Central Valley. And as if all that isn’t enough, we also have a new crop of our Costa Rica Tarrazu Puma arriving alongside all of the new micros.

So let’s jump in and get into some of these new arrivals.

Olman Urena Honey Microlot

Third generation grower Olman Ureña Salazar has been producing coffee on his West Valley farm for over 25 years. His Honey Microlot processed at the neighboring state-of-the-art Palmichal micromill which includes patios for sun-drying, elevated bed, and a greenhouse with specially designed drum dryers for more inclement weather. Santa Cruz Honey Microlot

Our Santa Cruz Honey Microlot comes from just 15 small Santa Cruz producers from a total of less than 50 acres. The lot consists of handpicked Caturra, Red Catuai and Yellow Catuai. The resulting combination of several different farms for a honey processed ensemble is a complex and balanced cup. Read More…

Hacienda Sonora Black Honey Microlot

Hacienda Sonora’s Black Honey Microlot is hand-picked and expertly pulped to preserve 100% of the fruit mucilage. This lot is 100% Red Catuai from only a small section of their 197 acre farm. Read More…

Notes: Berry aroma. Notes of sweet cherry and lemon with a slight hint of almond. Medium body and acidity.

Hacienda Sonora El Churro Microlot

The El Churro Microlot is a blend of 50-50 natural process and black-honey process coffees. Named for the universally loved churro doughnut stick, this unique blended process has been created to maximize cup potential with results that can be reproduced time and again each season. Read More…

Hacienda Sonora Obata Microlot

The Obata Microlot is a natural process 100% Red Obata variety that produces a complex cup. Obata is a cross between Timor and Villa Sarchi varieties that was developed in Brazil and introduced to Costa Rica in 2014 as a highly productive, rust-resistant hybrid. Read More…

Hacienda Sonora Sarchimor Microlot

The Sarchimor Microlot is a natural process of 100% Sarchimor family varieties that produces a complex, fruited cup. Through years of testing growers Hacienda Sonora owners, Alberto & Diego Guardia, have selected their favorite Sarchimors for full production of this lot, having proven to be very resistant to most diseases (including rust) and consistently productive, year after year. Tarrazu Puma SHB

This year marks the 9th year of production for our Tarrazu Puma with cup quality having improved each season as the producers have become more and more refined in their process. As a result the Puma has better acidity than other Costa Ricans and a great, bright aroma in the cup. Read More…
