2023 FTO Papua New Guinea En Route
September greetings to all you roasters and coffee lovers out there. We are very pleased to announce the imminent arrival of the new crop of a Vournas Coffee Trading exclusive, our Fair Trade Organic (FTO) Papua New Guinea Purosa from the Eastern Highlands,
It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 20 years since we first began establishing a relationship with this incredible community of PNG growers. Since that time, our FTO Papua New Guinea Purosa has become wildly popular both with roasters and our staff here at the home office. Today, over 3,000 Fair-Trade Organic certified farmers from the Highland Organic Agricultural Cooperative (HOAC) produce their coffees from small family-owned plots, each being manicured by their respective coop members. It’s truly a unique coffee with a unique history, and one that we’re very proud to be able to share with all of you.
Our fully washed Fair Trade Organic Papua New Guinea Purosa offers a sweet, complex cup with a noticeably clean profile that is not typically associated with other Pacific Island coffees Some of the trees which produce our Fair Trade Organic Papua New Guinea are decades old, producing less fruited cherries, but also a higher sugar content than younger crops. This of course translates to a sweeter and more complex cup.
2023 FTO PNG Purosa Notes: Sweet raw sugar aroma, good acidity and creamy body, caramel overtones with hints of dried sweet apricot and a slight cocoa note on the finish.
We have long encouraged our roasters to explore the versatility of our FTO PNG Purosa in their shops. Having great balance and sweet, fruited tones, it performs exceedingly well as both a stand-alone single origin, and in blends like a traditional Moka Java or even espresso.
There’s a lot to love when it comes to this coffee. Beyond it’s excellent cup quality lies the legacy of the Eastern Highlands growing community and the hard working generations that helped establish their region as a world-renowned producer of specialty grade arabica.
As for us, we’re very proud that Vournas Coffee Trading is able to claim a small role in bringing this coffee and the proud people behind it to the world stage.
