The co-op that produces our Fair Trade Organic Honduras Capucas is located in the western part of Honduras and is the one of the largest “certified” (certified organic and certified Fair Trade) co-operatives in the world. There are 840 growing farms listed in the co-op and the growing region is almost 3,500 hectares in the Santa Rosa de Copan region. Over all the Capucas co-operative produces over 100,000 bags of coffee per year. Coffee has been grown in the Capucas region since 1885 and the co-op was created in 1999 to help the farmers work together to help with mill and coffee processing costs. The farms produce Typica and Caturra coffee for this Fair Trade Organic Honduras at elevations between 3,500 and 5,800 feet and earn it a SHG grading.
Good aroma, medium body and acidity. A bright, lively coffee with a smooth, almost clear like finish and almost delicate aftertaste.
Honduran coffee has quietly become one of the best Central American coffees as the farmers have made deliberate efforts to improve quality and processing techniques. Honduran coffee has a “softer” flavor profile in relation to Guatemalan or Costa Rican coffees. There is a sweetness to this coffee that isn’t overpowering. As an organically certified coffee, our Fair Trade Organic Honduras Capucas is naturally grown and processed without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
