Andrew Vournas has been trading and importing green coffee since 1988. His experience in specialty coffee and knowledge of the industry spans over a quarter century. Andrew has served multiple terms as Board of Director for the Pacific Coast Coffee Association (PCCA). He has spoken on numerous panels, training seminars and trade conventions on a variety of industry-related topics, and has helped organize a number of cupping competitions both in the United States and abroad. Andrew has also performed as an international jury cupping judge for Cup of Excellence competitions in Bolivia and Colombia.
Andrew Vournas learned the coffee trade from the ground up, beginning at age 19. Back then he delivered, warehoused, and cupped coffee, while implementing cupping room quality controls. In 1989 at age 20, he became one of the youngest coffee traders in the United States. In his quest to source the World’s best arabica coffee, Andrew has traversed the globe from Central America to South America, Africa to the Caribbean and the Pacific Rim – all in all he’s visited 38 countries, 5 continents and counting.
In 2002 Andrew founded Vournas Coffee Trading as an independent, family-owned, specialty coffee importation and trading business with a commitment to quality and customer service. Andrew and Vournas Coffee Trading have championed the cause of the world’s coffee farmers by working with growers and mill operators to improve the quality of their coffee. His efforts have empowered farmers to profit from the price increases that higher quality coffee commands.
Andrew Vournas collaborates with a number of non-profit organizations, providing necessary supplies, training and assistance programs to farmers and families in need. Going beyond the call of the trading desk, Andrew takes pride in the success of his retail and wholesale roasters by helping to establish their businesses, providing market insight, sourcing origins and developing custom blends.
In September of 2019, Andrew was nominated to serve a two year term as Executive Vice President of the Pacific Coast Coffee Association, followed by another two years as PCCA President. Founded in 1932, the PCCA has a core mission to serve the interests of every coffee industry professional, through partnerships built on personal friendship, mutual respect, unification and collaboration.
Andrew Vournas lives and works in Westlake Village, California with his wife Kat and son Zach. In his spare time he enjoys the beach, hiking, cheering on his son’s Westlake High Warriors football team and watching the USC Trojans Football. If he had to choose only one, his favorite coffee would be the Papua New Guinea Purosa, a near and dear origin to Vournas Coffee Trading. His favorite quote is “The only easy day was yesterday.” – Navy Seal Philosophy
