Growing coffee is difficult and challenging work. At the end of the day, the success of a coffee grower is not merely just measured by his or her profits, but rather the prosperity of their family and surrounding community. All of us at Vournas Coffee Trading take the success and prosperity of growers very seriously. From day one we have gladly paid premiums above market value for exceptional specialty coffee, and today we’re pleased to announce we’re taking it a step further.
Providing Support At Origin
In working with The Coffeelands Foundation, a non-profit organization, Vournas Coffee Trading is able to provide our roasters a direct link to a program that provides essential support for coffee farmers and their families. Coffeelands provides farm-level funding for education, healthcare, food security, disaster response, and the micro-loan program for women through their tax-deductible “Penny-A-Pound” program. We invite our roasters to ask about donation opportunities through the program, where one can choose any dollar amount to contribute (per pound of coffee), and when to start. Those pennies can add up fairly quick considering a single container holds up to 42,000 lbs of coffee!
We are hopeful that our partnership will go a long way in support of these coffee growing communities, while also helping to bolster our efforts to pay premiums to the incredible farmers whose hard work provides us with the world’s best specialty coffee.
