2025 Costa Rica Exclusives: Tarrazu Puma & El Tigre

This month two 2025 Costa Rica Exclusives, Tarrazu Puma & El Tigre return to our marquis lineup. Both are produced by the same multi-generation growers that we’ve been working with for over ten years now.

2025 Costa Rica Exclusives: Tarrazu Puma & El Tigre

Beginning with the Puma – and Tarrazu as a whole – their coffee is known for having a more striking acidity in comparison to coffees from other parts of Costa Rica. The Puma itself is cultivated in volcanic soil at elevations ranging from 3,000 – 5,000 feet. We also emphasize the fact that small estate producers are responsible for the cultivation and milling of this Vournas Coffee exclusive.

Tarrazu Hills, Costa Rica

2025 marks the 11th year of production for the Tarrazu Puma. Each year the cup is slightly different, but the quality has consistently improved. You’ll find it to have very good balance with a bright aroma and fruity notes in the cup.

Costa Rica Tarrazu Puma Notes:

Toasted almond aroma. Notes of tangerine, orange blossom, bakers chocolate and slight vanilla. Medium body and acidity.

Next up, El Tigre! Each Spring we look forward to a new shipment of our single estate Costa Rica El Tigre. We named it after the Vournas Coffee mascot for a reason – it’s a hallmark that’s become a centerpiece of our exclusive coffee offerings. Graded SHB/EP, El Tigre is produced by two wonderful, multi-generation coffee families in the volcanic mountains of Heredia and Barva. The region itself is stunning – lush and beautiful, but more to the point – being part of the Central Valley it’s where many of Central America’s most sought-after coffees are sourced.

Costa Rica El Tigre

El Tigre is washed and wet milled on site at the family’s private mill in Barva, and either sun dried or mechanically dried depending on weather and precipitation. The beans are stored in parchment until the exact time it’s ready to ship, preserving the bean’s moisture content and acidity. The families who produce the El Tigre have been with us for more than 25 years now. That’s a special thing in this business, and a badge that we proudly wear.

Costa Rica El Tigre Notes:
Toasted almond aroma. Notes of lemon, grapefruit, milk chocolate and brown sugar. Good acidity and bright body.

If you’re new to browsing our news section, be sure to check back. Spring and summer are typically the time of year where we’re getting some great new stuff in stock. Once we’ve cupped and vetted  them at VCT HQ and if they make the grade they’ll be sure to show up here sooner than later!

Happy Roasting,
