2024 Sumatra Lintong Triple Pick Tiger

New this month at VCT, our 2024 Sumatra Lintong ‘Triple Pick’ Tiger is back for it’s 10th season in our roster. Going back to that first year when we began offering it, our roasters have been very happy with the quality of offering. Notably the ‘Triple Pick’ designation refers to the hand-sorting of the beans, done above and beyond it’s Grade-1 designation. There’s a lot more to tell about this wonderful offering and the breathtaking region of Sumatra from which it has traveled.
Among the lush forests in Northern Sumatra you will find one of the most geologically significant locations in world, Lake Toba. This massive body of water is the site of what is considered to be the largest volcanic eruption in the last 25 million years. The lake is a sunken caldera; actually the largest volcanic lake of its kind in the world. On the hills surrounding it’s shorelines, you will find a cooperative of 120 small farmers who together produce our Sumatra Lintong ‘Triple Pick’ Tiger. Naturally, these farmlands are well suited for coffee (and tea) production due to the wet climate, high altitude and mineral rich, volcanic soil.
One thing you may not know about our Lintong ‘Triple Pick’ Tiger is that it has been a centerpiece in our lineup of marquis coffees for quite some time, 10 years in fact. What’s important to note, however is that it represents the highest grade of Sumatran specialty coffee: certified Grade 1, TP (Triple Picked) – rigorously sorted by hand to remove any defects and ensure the best cups.

2024 Sumatra Lintong ‘Triple Pick’ Tiger Notes: Nice, earthy aroma. Creamy, big body and notes of dark chocolate, honey, and black pepper. Substantial mouthfeel and lingering finish.

Semi-Washed coffees are sort of a mid-way point between washed and natural process. As such, they are pulped and dried for only a handful of hours until moisture is between 25% and 50%. The parchment layer remains intact along with a healthy portion of the mucilage, causing the beans to be gummy and sticky if not outright slimy. The parchment is then dried on natural clay or dirt patios where the beans freely absorb the earthen minerality. This in turn contributes to a classic, full earthy profile, syrupy aroma, big body, substantial mouthfeel and a long finish.
On top of all that the Lintong Tiger ships in GrainPro, helping to maintain proper moisture and freshness.
