2025 Colombia Supremo Bucaramanga ‘El Gato’
Colombia is one of the world’s premier coffee growing nations. By export volume, it’s among the top arabica producers, and claims one of the oldest established farm-to-export global trade systems. Notably, it’s also home of world-famous coffee persona, the late Juan Valdez. Known for quality and consistency, their supremo coffees are some of South America’s finest – and our Colombia Supremo Bucaramanga ‘El Gato’ is a top 17/18 screen offering. The cup has a great aroma, excellent balance and all other qualities expected from our marquis lineup.
The Santander department whose capital, Bucaramanga, rests atop a plateau nestled between the Andean peaks and the immense El Tama National Park is home to our ‘El Gato’, and a locale that is exceptionally well-suited for the cultivation of arabica coffee.
If you’re not familiar with coffees from the Santander Department, you may be been missing out! The typical farm here has plots with a natural canopy of tall shade trees, rich volcanic soil and an idyllic arabica-friendly micro climate. The Bucaramanga ‘El Gato’ is a titan in this regard – 100% handpicked, washed and milled by the Northeastern Colombian Coffee Cooperative.
It’s main crop is harvested in October to December, but the Mitaca (fly crop) hits the market following harvesting between April and July. FYI: Colombia is one of only a few countries (incl. Brazil & Papua New Guinea) whose climates allow for an additional or second ‘Mitaca’ crop in a single year.
