Eaton Fire, Los Angeles January 2025

Heartbreaking Destruction In Los Angeles

For Vournas Coffee the month of January took an unexpected turn with the fires that broke out in Palisades and Eaton Canyon, both suburbs of the County of Los Angeles. Both cities are not only close to our office headquarters in proximity but very near and dear to our hearts. The destruction caused is unfathomable. Homes, schools and churches were wiped out. But looking for good within a challenge, out of this devastation has come heartwarming stories of bravery, determination and perseverance. We are grateful to the firefighters and first responders whose dedication and hard work helped save countless lives and homes.

We especially want to thank all of the roasters and our coffee partners worldwide who reached out to us asking if we were okay and needed any help. We are doing good. Feeling this love and
support we were reminded of something that we already knew. How fortunate we are to work in such a loving and caring industry. Coffee people are a special bunch, and we watch out for each other.

The coffee market is still near the all-time high, and shipments are delayed once again reminiscent of the days of COVID, and exporters, importers and roasters alike are adjusting and realigning to what is the new normal. As 2025 gets off to a start we would be remiss if we didn’t say how appreciative and thankful we are for our roasters, our coffee partners and our families. As well as we are thinking and praying for those whose lives have been upended because of the fires as they start their steps to rebuild their lives.

We Love You Los Angeles!!
